It has since come to light that the actress had recently undergone a liver transplant and may have been facing complications. In the months prior to her passing, the former Harriet the Spy star had been met with an outpouring of concern on Instagram, as followers expressed worry over her visibly altered appearance.

In January 2024, Michelle Trachtenberg fired back at criticism with a bold message on Instagram, writing, “Fun fact. This is my face. Not malnutrition, no problems. Why do you have to hate?
